Participate in VEEP

One of the biggest stressors for service members during transition is the uncertainty of what to do and worries about financial well-being. By offering VEEP, JATCs are able provide a path to a civilian career, as well as bringing hardworking and dependable apprentices to the electrical industry. The goal of VEEP is to offer training nationwide to service members and veterans looking to make the transition to civilian life. However, VEEP needs training centers that are willing to participate in the program.

Training JATC

Training JATCs Near Military Bases

  • Recruitment: Training JATCs are best located near military bases. However, this is not a hard and fast requirement any longer.
  • Partnership: The electrical training ALLIANCE has a national SkillBridge MOU with the Department of Defense.
  • Approval: Local JATCs need approval to become VEEP locations. They will handle recruiting and training.
  • Key Concerns:
    1. Does the JATC accept direct entry?
    2. Is there a funding plan?
    3. Does the JATC have the necessary resources (instructional, facility, administrative)?
  • Training Willingness: JATCs must be willing to train service members for other apprenticeships.
  • Connection: The electrical training ALLIANCE will connect service members with their receiving JATC.

Training Duration and Schedule

  • Duration: Training for active-duty personnel lasts 120 days, starting in the final 180 days of active duty. This creates a problem for the typical line school so the options below are aimed at inside programs.
  • Schedule: Training is delivered during normal working hours. Night school formats won’t work due to accountability requirements.
  • Program Options: There are in-person and hybrid options tailored to the local JATCs schedule and assets.
  • Application Process: Training JATCs will handle applications, substance abuse testing, and aptitude tests similarly to the normal process. The JATC will also help filter and prioritize the list of applicants in preparation of finalizing the roster.
  • Record Keeping: Records must be maintained and forwarded to the electrical training ALLIANCE upon completion.
  • Aptitude Tests: Scores for direct entry applicants at JATCs are diagnostic only under most JATC DOL approved standards and are not used to filter VEEP applicants.

Training Models for Inside Participants

  • In-Person Model: This model, consists of the Inside 1st Year Curriculum, Reading Comprehension, Tech Math, and a hands-on evaluation. It is conducted entirely in person.
  • Hybrid Model: This option, uses Interim Credentials, Reading Comprehension, and Tech Math, along with three or more weeks in person. The online portion can be self-paced or have scheduled attendance.
  • Online Model: This option is flexible for service members worldwide and the training location. However, it is not approved for SkillBridge.

Graduates will meet standard guidelines for the inside first-year curriculum, are from a population likely to succeed, and will be prepared to be an asset in their chosen home location, which might or might not be the training location.
